Alexander McCandless convinces a man by the name of Ronald Franz to live off the land and become a tramp like Alex. Ron ends up listening to Alex. The life lesson to be taught here is that one should always live life to the max and to take advantage of being alive and live in the moment.
In chapter 8 we learn about Carl McCunn and his adventure. He dies a long and agonizing death because he forgot to schedule a date for him to be picked up by a plane. Also when he first gets there he throws away some of his ammunition thinking that it is stupid to have so much ammo. The life lesson here is that one should always be prepared for any obstacle and that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
John Waterman another character we learn about displays an important life lesson. He was born and raised a mountain climber. He used to climb mountains with his brother and his dad all the time until his mom and his dad got a divorce then his father completely forgot about John. He says how hard it was for him but despite all the pain he still continued to climb mountains. The obvious life lesson here is that no matter what happens one should do what one loves most.
